I have a mild dislike for Canva. I’ve made a couple of attempts at using it and I’m not really impressed. 97% of the stuff that I do that’s graphics I can do in GIMP. I generally can do it faster’cause I’m not waiting for an Internet connection. And when I’m done no I’ll be able to save it as the format I need. Well export it anyway. And then those now increasingly rare moments where there’s no Internet connection, with GIMP installed on my laptop I can generally still accomplish something.
I also think a big part of why I don’t like Canva is because it seems to be to do everything that anyone could possibly want. For example one of the few features that I’m more inclined to want to is the embed future. Where you can download an HTML file and copy it into your website. But it also creates PDFS, have ready made infographics, and animations, and there’s always templates for something. Templates for wedding invitations baby announcements Graduation announcements graduation invitations I’m pretty sure if I looked I could find a template creating a stock certificate for a company. One of the things I have used it for is also generating sudoku and other puzzles.
So much potential but it also runs just so slow, and I’m never really sure that once I’ve got something I like and I want to use it it feels like it’s too many hoops to jump through to actually get it saved on my computer on my server somewhere where it’s actually in my control.
But I think most of that a symptom of the actual problem with Canva. I find the website’s user interface to be cumbersome, and not very intuitive. I have to do too much searching and trial and error to find how to do some of the simplest stuff. And it’s changed enough in such a short time that looking for instructions on YouTube or website It’s usually outdated and it’s changed enough that it’s not even worth looking up. N
I personally would rather just stick Gimp or Photoshop, I’m sure there may be even some program that you can download and install and actually have access to it, and would actually run faster.
and I get the big selling feature of canvas the Templates. So maybe in hopes of encouraging more people to use Photoshop and I should start releasing wedding templates Graduation announcement templates for GIMP.
