Ah what the hell Facebook

its been quite a while since been a blog karma One of the things that I’ve noticed is that every means of promotion that I used to rely on just flat doesn’t work anymore. And even if there small possibility that I could get a little bit of traffic from some of older social media platforms Something about them have changed where not as reliable as they used to be. I’ve mentioned before some of the problems I was having with Pinterest. And regardless of how much effort I put into Twitter I never got any traffic by posting there. Not even going to attempt now.

I create not so much to promote this website. But to a site that I’m spending a lot more effort on. We created a Facebook account just for that website. I’m able to do common banners and graphics and filling profile information pretty much got Facebook page completely set up. And I go to first promotional post entry. And I get a warning saying I can’t because I have to verify my identity before I can post anything. And the instructions go to the app on my phone to verify my ID by following the instructions there.

There’s just one problem with that, I have never used the Facebook app. I don’t want to use the Facebook app. I am rather loathed at the notion of being forced to use the Facebook app for anything. And quite frankly I don’t see why facebook or Meta whatever the hell they want to call themselves Has any business demanding I use a cell phone app when all of my activity has been through a PC browser. If they wanted to verify that I actually had ownership of the website I can understand that. Adding a special file in the index directory for the website would be a piece of cake. It would prove that I own that website that I have the authority to post under that brand that. Rewind

part of the explanation this warning gave was about fighting misinformation. I don’t see forcing me to use a cell phone app is going to help fight misinformation. I don’t see how they can claim to be fighting misinformation if they’re allowing AI to be the common means that content is produced the Facebook feed. It just doesn’t make sense other than they’re looking for one more data point to glean.

maybe I’m wrong? Maybe there is a way that forcing people to identify themselves through a cell phone app is an effective way to prevent misinformation. Leave a comment if you have a theory or some bit of information shed on the practice.
