the most common feature and all these serv services is an option to upload an image and have a 3D generated. I have to admit the results were impressive. But the simpler the the better defined the result. The very first time I attempted to have a mesh generated based off of image, I used a highly detailed picture of a ring with vary or decorations on the and carved into the precious stone in the center. The end results were monkey. The ring wasn’t actually round it looked more like a ornate D ring or a carabiner rather than jewelry. And some of the Laurel leaves that were on the side ended up floating in midair and the final result. If I had been allowed to download I’m pretty sure I could have made some corrections in 3D builder or Meshmixer.
the second image I tried was, made out of brass I believe it was intended as a face shield for some ancient set of armor. The first service figured out that it was a mask and only the face. It looked like the proportions were correct, and it probably would have printed just fine. But I’m just experimenting and I’m not really interested in spending money to be able to download something, and I can’t really justify the service expenditure.
in total I’ve probably tried 4 different before finally finding a service that would allow me to generate something and download it. The final results are up in the top left hand corner. For the most part I think it did a wonderful job, except it didn’t seem to understand that the item being pictured was a mask so the final result is more of a asymmetrical egg shape. With eye holes. Something that I could probably correct in just about any slicing software. The rest of the detail rendered very nicely. The nostril holes may need some cleaning up and the mouth is supposed to be open but for some reason the final result the as a solid piece through it. These are minor issues that I could probably clean up with Meshmixer.
At the moment I can’t find a use case for such a service. It’s musing I could probably find other stuff that I would want to 3D
copy. But aside from making cheap props or very unsettling home decor I can’t really think of a reason why I would use such a service. I don’t think I could recreate body panels for a car with it. But I might be wrong, What do you think. The 3D file that was generated is free to download That link is at the bottom of the post. Enjoy
