I’ve done a bit of experimenting with generative AI. Haven’t generated a story or create a video clip yet. Honestly I’m not sure I’d want too. And I’m definitely not going to generate blog posts. Most of what I’ve been doing is image generation. I’ll admit it’s fun, it’s a great way to pass some time. The results are novel. It can get the larger ideas of what Is being depicted across. But they’re still very clearly AI generated. Nothing that I would call professional or even complete. I wouldn’t call anything that I’ve seen so far art; because It’s soulless somehow. Not even really worth using for graphics on a blog post. For the amount of time it would take to generate something. I could easily go to any number of Free websites and find a stock photo that would work better.
I’ve even experimented a little bit with Vibe coding. Nothing major mostly just Auto-hot-key and Java scripts. Only in the interest of saving time, and having a functioning example to learn from. At some point I might even try Python through AI generation. For small experimental projects. Well I’ll admit the result that I was getting for auto hotkey and JavaScript were completely functional It did take several attempts and several different approaches to describe the Desired results to actually get code that did what I wanted. I lost a day and a half because the A had a different definition of scrolling up than I did. I don’t know how many auto hotkey scripts I tested before realizing that I needed to specify that the process should Scroll down to get the results that I was expecting. I could lose that much time on a script to help me sort through files, I’d hate to think of how frustrating it would be to do something more complicated. And since programming isn’t one of my stronger skills how would I know that the end result wasn’t producing some sort of security risk or was really bad at managing the memory it used. I don’t have the skill to read through the code and identify major problems an AI could just spit out and not disclose. Not exactly something that I would trust.
I’m one of those guys that’ll stop reading a blog once I figure out it’s generated slop. I also block Youtube channels once I realize that it’s also AI generated.. The kind of content that I’m drawn to is the stuff that’s created by people who are passionate about it. If they can’t be bothered to sit down and write, then clearly they don’t have any passion about the subject. It’s un-inspired drivel by someone who is out to make an easy buck. And that goes the same with Youtube videos if they’re not willing to sit down at video editing software and put some effort into the final product then it’s quite clear they don’t really have any passion about what they’re doing. With social media being generated by AI the results are soulless. Uninteresting. And quite possibly nothing but misinformation. It’s content that’s not worth reading or watching.
My overall take away from the little bit of experimenting with AI that I’ve done. Mildly musing at best and possibly adjacent to convenient. And definitely not worth paying for.
