I’ve never liked Twitter. I like it even less now that it’s X. (trying way to hard to be cool, and that’s lame) But even when it was “cool”, I really didn’t like it. I found it useless To be more specific. For starters, the character limit is too troublesome to bother with. Even when they doubled it, Too constraining to a viable form of communication. Trying to stick to that character limit often forced people to choose confusing wording, post stuff without context. leading to lives being Destroyed. Hunted by an angry digital mob.
but as a blog ger that’s not where my real gripe is. For the brief moment that I did use Twitter it was for promoting my website. I even managed to get followings into the triple digits. A a whole 200 plus) But after a while I quickly discovered that most of what was following me was bots. Or just other people looking to promote crap was sort of adjacent to what I was doing. Not actual followers. And when you’re the only person that’s creating content for a website, and social media, And trying to put food on the table . Your time gets to be pretty precious. And for the time I was loosing on tweeting, twitter just was not giving me the return I needed. There was a study on Twitter that found that after you get 1000 followers the traffic and Sales from Twitter plateaued. It didn’t matter how many more thousands you added once you hit 1000 that was as good as it was going to get. You aren’t going to get any more traffic you weren’t going to get any more sales It just wasn’t worth the effort.
I’m going to offer an observation. Twitter Never of any real value and even less so in its current Form. No one became Twitter famous. There are plenty of people that achieved some level of celebrity or fame on Youtube Karma and Tiktok karma and on a lesser level Instagram. But became famous on Twitter. There are famous people on Twitter; people who already had fame very easily found a large following on Twitter. But got famous on Twitter by using Twitter. And incurring the wrath of an angry digital mob doesn’t count as fame.
Why am I talking about my hatred for Twitter now. It’s become a monumental archive of human stupidity. And I’m acknowledging my part in it. There was a Twitter account for Mercenary Mind and the only thing posted to it was promotional material for a wonky little DIY website. And that’s my only involvement in it.
